Vincent River
by Philip RIdley
an adaptation to Maltese by Simone Spiteri
direction by Bettina Paris
🎭 AUDITION CALL
A new Maltese-language production of VINCENT RIVER, a powerful and uncompromising play by Philip Ridley (MERCURY FUR and TENDER NAPALM), will be staged at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta, in October 2027.
We are looking for two exceptional actors for this intense two-hander:
ANITA (playing age 40s – 50s)
A woman. Tough, sharp, defensive and darkly funny. Beneath the armour lies a mother struggling with grief, anger and the devastating circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
DAVEY (actors 18+. Playing age 18 to 20)
A young man. Restless, volatile and vulnerable. He arrives at Anita’s door carrying secrets of his own — and an urgent need to tell her what he knows.
Set in the aftermath of a brutal homophobic murder, VINCENT RIVER brings together two strangers whose lives have been shattered by the same death. What begins as suspicion and confrontation gradually becomes a raw, intimate reckoning with grief, sexuality, shame, prejudice and truth.
Ridley’s play is emotionally demanding and requires performers capable of handling highly charged material.
All interested Auditionees must email ADRIAN BUCKLE at unifauntheatre@gmail.com to request access to the required audition pack.
Phase One: submission of self-tape or Video Recording to reach us by 2nd October 2026, noon.
Phase Two: Chosen auditionees are recalled to attend in-person auditions on Sunday, 18th October.
If auditionees submit a self-tape, they must ensure they are available in case of a recall. Audition material and further details will be provided to selected applicants.
Applicants should have a strong command of spoken Maltese and be available for rehearsals leading up to the October 2027 (September through to October) performances at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.
This project is supported by Arts Council Malta and MGRM.
